Exciting times appear to be ahead for Sigma fans. The Japanese manufacturer has announced its “2026 Sigma Special Event” for October 23, and there is already quite a bit of speculation about what the company might be planning to unveil. The announcement was shared on Sigma’s Chinese Weibo account, with the event scheduled for 2:30 PM China time and a livestream planned as well. Sigma is also holding an event called the Optical Experience at its S’room in Shanghai on October 24 and 25, where visitors will be able to try out some of its latest products. Apparently, Sigma’s German branch has also sent out invitations for another event on October 24. So while we do not actually know what is coming yet, it definitely looks like Sigma has at least one new product to announce.

One possibility is the rumoured 65mm autofocus lens with an aperture faster than f/1.2. We first heard about this lens back in April, and since then there has been speculation that it could have a maximum aperture of f/1.0 or f/1.1, which would make it a particularly fast autofocus lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras. There is also an interesting theory going around in the Sigma community about the focal length. Since the company is celebrating its 65th anniversary this year, some people have suggested that releasing a 65mm lens could be a fitting way to mark the occasion.

Another possibility is the long-rumoured Sigma fp II, which has been popping up again recently. According to earlier reports, the compact L-mount camera could feature a 24-megapixel sensor, internal RAW recording, open-gate video and an optional electronic viewfinder. The official teaser for the October 23 event (you can see it up top on the left), however, appears to show elements of a camera lens, which makes a new lens announcement seem a little more likely, although there is always the possibility that Sigma has several products planned.
