Viltrox’s 26mm Pancake Lens Gets New Colours
Viltrox has introduced two new colour options for its AF 26mm f/2.8 EVO FE, with the compact full-frame pancake lens now available in Graphite Grey and Mist Silver, alongside the original Classic Black version. Apart from the different finishes, the lens itself remains largely unchanged, although the new editions also come with a square lens hood that helps reduce stray light and offers some additional protection for the front element. The lens itself has an all-metal construction and weighs 130g without the hood.
Optically, the AF 26mm f/2.8 EVO FE uses eight elements in six groups, including one high-refractive-index element and two aspherical elements. It has a maximum aperture of f/2.8, which is not particularly fast compared with larger wide-angle primes, but helps keep the lens compact. Autofocus is handled by an STM motor, with a minimum focusing distance of 0.2m.
One rare detail is that, despite its pancake design, Viltrox has managed to include separate aperture and focus rings, giving you a little more direct control than you normally get with lenses this small. The lens also comes with a 43mm filter thread, a rubber-sealed lens mount and a USB-C port for firmware updates.
