The Latest Sony Camera Rumours

Another new Sony camera appears to be getting closer, although exactly what Sony is preparing is still a bit of a mystery. A recently registered camera carries the model number WW261362, and the available certification information points toward something in Sony’s mid-range or higher-end lineup. As usual with these registrations, there is no actual product name attached yet, but one possibility getting a lot of attention is the long-awaited Sony A7S IV.
An A7S IV would certainly make sense from a timing perspective. The A7S III is now more than six years old, although Sony’s FX cinema lineup raises the question of where a new A7S would actually fit. One possibility would be taking some of the technology developed for the newer FX5 and putting it into a more traditional Alpha body, with stronger still-photography capabilities alongside the video features. But there are other realistic candidates too. The A7C III and A7C R II are both possibilities, especially now that the A7 V and A7R VI have established newer technology that could eventually make its way into Sony’s compact full-frame bodies.
And those are not the only options. The registration could potentially belong to another FX camera or a new APS-C model, such as an A6800 or A6900. Sony’s A6700 arrived more than three years ago, while Canon and Fujifilm are both expected to refresh their higher-end APS-C lineups, so an update there would not be particularly surprising either. For now, however, nothing confirms which camera WW261362 actually is, so the A7S IV talk remains pure speculation. Sony registrations also tend to appear several months before the finished product, meaning a December 2026 announcement is possible, but an early 2027 launch currently looks more realistic.
