SG-image’s new AF 35mm f/1.4 Legacy lens for APS-C cameras is here, following several appearances at photography shows in China earlier this year. The lens is available for Sony E and Fujifilm X mounts and offers a focal length equivalent to approximately 53mm on a full-frame camera with a f/1.4 aperture. It is also relatively small, measuring 70mm in diameter and 54mm in length. Weight comes in at around 227g.

Inside, the AF 35mm f/1.4 Legacy uses seven elements arranged in six groups, with SG-image opting for high-refractive-index glass throughout the optical design. The aperture ranges from f/1.4 to f/16, with nine rounded aperture blades. The minimum focusing distance is 35cm, and the lens accepts standard 52mm filters. Autofocus is handled by an STM stepping motor, which is designed to provide quiet and smooth focusing. The lens also supports camera-based autofocus functions such as face and eye detection, although actual autofocus performance will depend on the camera being used.

As for the exterior, the lens has a metal barrel with a retro style finish. Both the Sony E-mount and Fujifilm X-mount versions are available in black or silver, although the silver version costs an extra $10 for either mount. The SG-image AF 35mm f/1.4 Legacy is priced at $178 for both mounts in black, and $188 for both mounts in silver.
