PolarPro’s Latest Lens Filters
PolarPro has always put quite a bit of emphasis on creating effects in-camera instead of adding them later during editing, and the company’s latest filters follow that spirit. The new Radial Gradient Filters add colour directly while you are shooting, with three versions available, blue, red and orange. Each uses a radial gradient, so the centre of the photo remains relatively neutral while the colour gradually becomes stronger toward the edges.
How strong the effect is will depend partly on the lens you are using. Different focal lengths and optical designs behave differently toward the edges of the frame, meaning the same filter won’t necessarily produce exactly the same result on every lens. The filters are made from optical glass and can be used for both photography and video. Unlike a normal graduated filter, where the effect typically moves from one side of the frame to another, the colour surrounds the centre from all directions.
The Radial Gradient Filters come in 49mm, 67mm, 77mm and 82mm sizes, along with a version for PolarPro’s Helix filter system. The filters are sold as a three-colour set starting at $179.99, going up to $229.99 for the 82mm version, and are expected to start shipping on October 7.
