Nikon Z5IIC Coming September 24?
Nikon could finally be about to launch its first new photography-focused camera of 2026, with the Nikon Z5IIC reportedly arriving on September 24. According to the latest leaks, it will be a compact full-frame camera built around much of the technology from the Z5II, but packed into a smaller body. The expected starting point is the same 24MP full-frame sensor and 5-axis IBIS, although it is not yet clear whether the stabilisation system will match the Z5II’s maximum rating of 7.5 stops. After a pretty quiet year for Nikon photographers, this would be the company’s first major new stills camera announcement in quite some time.
The biggest difference from the regular Z5II could be the complete removal of the electronic viewfinder. That is apparently one of the ways Nikon is keeping both the body size and price down. It also means that despite comparisons with Sony’s A7C cameras, the Z5IIC would actually be closer in concept to something like the Panasonic Lumix S9, with you having to compose entirely through the rear screen. The camera is also expected to introduce fish subject detection, alongside several new video features that have not been detailed yet. Two finishes are reportedly planned as well, with buyers able to choose between black and silver versions.
There are some pretty strong signs that the camera is genuinely close. The Z5IIC name briefly appeared on official Nikon websites, while the rumoured September 24 announcement also lines up with upcoming Nikon events and ambassador schedules. Exactly where Nikon will position it in terms of price remains unknown, and there are still plenty of specifications missing, including burst speeds, video resolutions, autofocus details and the exact IBIS performance. But if the leaks are accurate, we won’t have to wait long for those answers.
