Fujifilm X-Half Gets New Firmware Update

Fujifilm has released firmware version 2.00 for the X-Half, bringing several improvements to the little digital half-frame camera, including faster performance, a new creative filter and more flexibility in its Film Camera mode. One of the biggest complaints about the X-Half since its launch has been its somewhat sluggish operation, particularly when starting the camera or taking several photos in quick succession. With this update, Fujifilm is addressing some of those issues through software, suggesting that at least part of the problem was not necessarily down to the hardware itself.
According to Fujifilm, the update reduces startup time and the delay between consecutive shots, while also improving autofocus speed. The company has not provided any actual measurements, however, so time will tell how much faster the X-Half feels in everyday use. There is also a new Soft Glow filter in the image quality settings, which softens bright highlights and adds a glowing effect to lighter areas of a photo.
The other big addition concerns the X-Half’s Film Camera mode, which is designed to recreate the experience of shooting with analog film. Instead of being limited to the previously available roll lengths, you can now choose 12 or 24 exposures, making it a little easier to finish a virtual roll without having to take quite as many photos. Beyond that, Fujifilm has included a few minor bug fixes. Firmware version 2.00 is available now as a free update for the Fujifilm X-Half.
