Cosina’s Voigtländer Color-Skopar 35mm f/2.5

Cosina has announced a special edition of its Voigtländer Color-Skopar 35mm f/2.5 to celebrate 100 years of the Skopar lens series. The new Skopar 100th Model is based on the existing 35mm f/2.5 P II, which has been around since 2004. So this is not an entirely new lens, but more a redesigned version with a slightly smaller body. It comes in a silver finish with a matching slotted metal lens hood and a three-piece aluminium rear lens cap. The lens itself measures 23mm long and weighs 134g.
Inside, the lens uses seven elements in five groups, including one abnormal partial dispersion element, along with a 10-blade aperture. Focusing is completely manual, with a minimum focusing distance of 0.7m and a small 39mm filter thread. Cosina has also made a few changes to the handling, including a small focusing tab that is shaped to fit your finger and a precisely machined metal focusing mechanism. There is also rangefinder coupling, so the lens works with compatible Leica M-mount cameras and other VM-mount systems.
And while the lens is mainly designed for rangefinder cameras, you can also use it on modern mirrorless cameras with the right adapter. For example, Voigtländer’s VM-E Close Focus Adapter II lets you mount it on Sony E-mount cameras and even focus a little closer than the lens normally allows. The Voigtländer Color-Skopar 35mm f/2.5 Skopar 100th Model will launch in November for 75,000 yen, or approximately $475. International pricing has not been confirmed yet.
