Viltrox’s Air Series Primes For L-Mount
Viltrox is bringing its Air Series over to L-Mount, with four of its small full-frame autofocus primes now available for Leica and Panasonic cameras. The lineup includes the 14mm f/4 Air, 20mm f/2.8 Air, 40mm f/2.5 Air, and 50mm f/2 Air, so there is quite a bit of ground covered between the ultra-wide 14mm and standard 50mm. None of these are completely new lenses, as all four are already available for Sony E-mount, but they do add a few more compact options to Viltrox’s growing L-Mount lineup.
The 14mm f/4 is the widest of the bunch, with a 112.6-degree field of view and a minimum focusing distance of 0.13m. The 20mm f/2.8 is a little tighter and focuses down to 0.19m, but gives you a brighter maximum aperture. Then there is the 40mm f/2.5, which sits closer to a normal perspective and can focus down to 0.34m, while the 50mm f/2 is the brightest lens of the four and has a minimum focusing distance of 0.51m. All four cover full frame, have autofocus, and are native L-Mount lenses with support for in-camera lens corrections, meaning they are not simply being E-mount lenses adapted to fit another mount.
As with Viltrox’s other Air lenses, the whole point is to keep them small, light and relatively affordable, rather than trying to compete with much larger high-end primes. And that carries over to the prices as well. The 20mm f/2.8 costs $168, the 40mm f/2.5 is $176, while both the 14mm f/4 and 50mm f/2 cost $199. All four new L-Mount versions are already available.
