The Latest Canon EOS R7 Mark II Rumours
With the new full-frame EOS R8 Mark II only just launched, the rumour mill is already turning again around what could be Canon’s next major camera release, the EOS R7 Mark II. The latest information points toward an announcement in the first quarter of 2027. There still is not a firm announcement date, although one possibility would be a launch ahead of CP+ in late February. Canon has not exactly made a habit of timing major camera announcements around the show in recent years, though. Earlier rumours had suggested the R7 II could arrive during 2026, but those expectations started to change back in April.
Actual specifications are still much less certain. Previous rumours and discussions have mentioned a new APS-C sensor, potentially a BSI design with resolution somewhere around 39MP, alongside Canon’s newer DIGIC Accelerator technology. Other possibilities include 40 fps electronic-shutter shooting, pre-capture, upgraded IBIS and a higher-resolution electronic viewfinder. There has also been talk of adding a CFexpress card slot and moving to a somewhat larger body, potentially closer in size to the EOS R6 III. None of those specs have been confirmed yet, however, so they are better treated as possibilities and not a reliable picture of the final camera.
What does seem increasingly likely is that Canon is planning a pretty substantial update rather than simply refining the original R7. One source has apparently described the R7 Mark II as a “massive” upgrade, although exactly what that refers to remains unclear. The original EOS R7 arrived back in 2022 with a 32.5MP APS-C sensor, IBIS and up to 30 fps electronic shooting, so there is a lot of room for Canon to bring over technology developed for its newer EOS R bodies. Pricing is rumoured to land somewhere around the $1,999–$2,199 mark.
