Tamron is apparently getting ready to introduce a new telephoto zoom for Nikon Z mount, with several reports suggesting an announcement could happen as soon as next week. Nothing has been officially confirmed yet, but the lens is rumoured to weigh around 560 grams, which would make it noticeably lighter than many constant-aperture zooms in this class.
What is a bit unusual is the reported focal length of 35–100mm. Most standard zooms stay within the familiar 24–70mm or 28–75mm range, but Tamron seems to be trading some wide-angle coverage for extra reach. Combined with the existing 16–30mm f/2.8 VXD G2, the two lenses would cover roughly 16mm to 100mm at a constant f/2.8 aperture, aside from a small gap between 30mm and 35mm.
If released, this would become Tamron’s tenth lens for Nikon Z mount, matching the company’s stated plan to roll out ten new lenses during its 2026 fiscal year. A Sony E-mount version is very likely, given Tamron’s long-standing relationship with Sony, while a Canon RF version remains less certain. There is still no word on pricing or availability, but if the rumours are accurate, the lens could be officially unveiled around February 19.
