The upcoming Nikon Z70 may have just appeared in technical drawings included in an FCC registration, giving us a possible first look at some of the camera's design details. Nikon recently registered a new wireless remote control, identified as the N2416, with the U.S. Federal Communications Commission. While the remote itself is not particularly interesting, its instruction manual includes drawings of a camera that does not seem to match any of Nikon's current models, raising speculation that the camera shown could actually be the rumoured Z70, which is expected to become Nikon's next high-end APS-C mirrorless camera.

Looking more closely at the drawings, the camera has a top-mounted information display and a button layout somewhat similar to the Nikon Z6 III and Z7 II. However, there is also an additional button next to the top display that does not appear on those models. Another small difference concerns the camera's strap lugs, which seem to be angled upward rather than positioned like those on the Z6 III. This could actually be a useful change, since the strap rings on the Z6 III can sometimes get in the way of the memory card compartment and make it difficult to open the cover completely.

This is also not the first time the Nikon Z70 name has appeared ahead of an official announcement. Back in August, the camera was briefly listed on an Apple support page covering ProRes-compatible products, while Nikon itself mentioned the model by accident in a newsletter in late October. According to earlier rumours, the Z70 could feature a 45-megapixel stacked APS-C sensor, which would make it a considerable step up from Nikon's current DX cameras. An official announcement is rumoured for the end of November 2026.
