New Canon EOS R Camera Accessories

Canon has announced several new accessories for its EOS R mirrorless cameras, including two timer remote controllers and a compact on-camera microphone. The new TC-N3 and TC-E3 replace the older TC-80N3 design and are mainly intended for long exposures, astrophotography, timelapses and other situations where precise shutter control is needed. Both models have a 20% larger LCD screen, bigger icons, an orange backlight for nighttime use and a new clock function for scheduling shooting sessions. They also support tripod mounting and run on AAA batteries. The main difference is compatibility. The TC-N3 works with cameras using Canon's N3 remote terminal, including the EOS R1, R3 and R5 series, while the TC-E3 supports E3-equipped models such as the R6 III, R6 II, R8, R7, R10 and R100.
Canon also introduced the DM-E10D, a small digital microphone that connects directly through the camera's Multi-Function Shoe. It uses a supercardioid pickup pattern, meaning it records sound coming from the front while reducing some of the noise from the sides. The microphone draws power directly from the camera, so there is no separate battery or cable to worry about. It also includes a built-in shock mount, wind cover and a dedicated Menu button for accessing audio settings. According to Canon, it is the smallest and lightest microphone in its DM series so far and works with several EOS R cameras, including the R1, R5 II, R6 III, R8 and R7.
Finally, there is a new Cropping Guide firmware for the EOS R6 Mark III, mostly meant for school, sports and other high-volume portrait photographers. It adds four different framing guides, including adjustable head-positioning lines, guides for props and colour-coded markers for common print formats such as 5×7 and 8×10. The DM-E10D will ship in December for $209.99, while the TC-N3 and TC-E3 arrive in early January for $189.99 and $209.99, respectively. The R6 III with Cropping Guide firmware preinstalled will cost $2,919, while existing owners can have it added for a $120 service fee.
