The Latest Nikon Rumours

There are some new Nikon rumors floating around, and it looks like the company could have two major announcements coming before the end of the year. According to the latest information, the long-awaited Nikon Z70 could finally be unveiled in November, while the new Nikkor Z 120-300mm f/2.8 TC VR S is expected to arrive a little earlier, toward the end of October. The Z70 was originally rumoured for August or September, but Nikon delayed several upcoming products. The camera is now expected to feature a 45-megapixel stacked APS-C sensor, potentially making it something like a smaller Z9 or a modern mirrorless successor to the D500, with fast sensor readout, reduced rolling shutter and a strong focus on sports and wildlife photography.
Interestingly, the Z70 name briefly appeared on an Apple support page listing cameras compatible with ProRes and ProRes RAW back in August, although the entry disappeared after just a few hours. Nikon has not officially confirmed the camera or its specifications yet, and the latest reports still leave open the possibility of another delay. Nikon has also been dealing with a more difficult market recently, with rising memory prices putting additional pressure on camera production and pricing. During its first fiscal quarter, the company reportedly sold 22% fewer cameras than a year earlier and reduced its annual sales forecast from 900,000 to 850,000 units, citing weaker demand in China as the main reason.
Meanwhile, the upcoming Nikkor Z 120-300mm f/2.8 TC VR S appears to be much closer to release. The lens was spotted last weekend at the Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix, apparently being used by an AFP photographer on a Nikon Z9, with black tape covering parts of its identification (see the photo on the left up top). Nikon officially announced its development back in May, and the lens features a built-in 1.4x teleconverter, extending its range to 168-420mm without having to attach anything externally. It has reportedly already been tested at several major sporting events, including Roland Garros. An official announcement is now rumoured for late October, although pricing remains unknown.
