DxO ViewPoint 6 is here, bringing AI-powered masking to the latest version of the company’s perspective correction software. The idea is to give you more control over which parts of a photo you want to correct, instead of having to adjust the entire frame. For example, if you are shooting several buildings and only one of them looks distorted, you can now correct that particular building without changing the others. The new AI masking works with ReShape Fusion, a tool introduced in ViewPoint 5 that allows you to make local geometric adjustments. Previously, you had to create masks manually, but ViewPoint 6 can now identify and mask individual subjects automatically, making the whole process a little easier.

One of the main problems with traditional perspective correction is that straightening buildings or fixing converging lines often means losing part of your photo. When you adjust the perspective of an entire frame, the software stretches and shifts everything, usually leaving empty areas around the edges that need to be cropped away. With ViewPoint 6, DxO is trying to reduce that problem by letting you work on smaller areas using an adjustable mesh. You can straighten a building, correct a person who looks stretched near the edge of a wide-angle photo, or fix other geometric distortions without affecting everything around them. The software does not generate new pixels to fill missing areas, though. Instead, it works with the pixels already in the photo, allowing you to reshape individual elements while keeping more of your original composition. There are also tools for barrel distortion, horizon correction and miniature effects.

As for compatibility, ViewPoint 6 supports RAW, JPEG and TIFF files, with RAW corrections using DxO’s camera and lens profiles. There are some basic exposure and white balance adjustments included, although it is not intended to replace a full photo editor. You can use it as a standalone application or as a plugin for Adobe Lightroom Classic and Photoshop. The new geometry tools are also included in DxO PhotoLab 10, so if you are already using that software, you won’t really need ViewPoint separately. DxO ViewPoint 6 is available for $129.99, while existing ViewPoint 5 owners can upgrade for $84.99.
