Canon’s next camera might be just around the corner—rumors say the EOS R6 Mark III is launching in May 2025, and it sounds like a solid upgrade for both photo and video shooters.
Word is it’ll have a 24MP LC1720 sensor, which should offer better detail and low-light performance than the current R6 II. It’s also expected to pack a new DIGIC Accelerator processor, which would mean faster overall performance and improved image quality—especially when it comes to processing big files or 4K/6K video.
Stabilization might be getting a boost too, with up to 8.5 stops of IBIS, making it easier to shoot handheld in tricky light. For video folks, things get interesting: rumors say it’ll support C4K/120p (with a Super 35mm crop), 6K oversampled 4K, plus Cinema RAW Light recording at 6K30p and 4K60p. Basically, a very legit hybrid setup.
Another big change could be the screen. The R6 Mark III might borrow the fully articulating OLED display design from Sony’s A7R V—so easier framing for vlogs, low-angle shots, or just general comfort. Add in a full-sized HDMI port, and it becomes much more usable for pro video rigs.
Autofocus is expected to be pulled from the upcoming R5 II, with better subject tracking and snappier focus speeds. Also on deck: 14-bit RAW at 30 fps with a readout of 1/180s when using the electronic shutter, which should make it great for action or wildlife.
Storage-wise, the camera should have dual card slots—one for CFexpress Type B, the other SD UHS-II. That’s a nice balance of speed and flexibility. Battery-wise, it’ll likely use the new LP-E6P, though it’s still unclear whether older LP-E6 batteries will be supported.
No official confirmation yet, but if even half of this is true, the R6 Mark III is shaping up to be a very appealing camera for anyone who wants a fast, powerful, do-it-all mirrorless body.
