Chinese lens maker Brightin Star is teasing a new macro lens that is set to be officially announced tomorrow, on January 29. While the company has not shared everything yet, enough details are already out there to get a fairly clear picture of what is coming. The lens is called the Brightin Star MF 60mm f/2.8, and as the name suggests, it is a fully manual-focus macro lens.
The MF 60mm f/2.8 is designed specifically for APS-C sensors, which helps explain its broad mount support. Brightin Star plans to offer it for Canon RF-S, Sony E, Nikon Z, Micro Four Thirds, and even Canon’s discontinued EF-M mount. On Canon APS-C bodies, the lens works out to an effective focal length of about 96mm, while on other systems it lands closer to 90mm. That puts it in short-telephoto territory, which is a common and practical range for macro work. The lens is rated for 2:1 maximum magnification, meaning it can reproduce subjects at up to twice life size on the sensor.
Other confirmed details include a clicked aperture ring and a minimum focusing distance of 0.182 meters, or roughly seven inches. Brightin Star already offers a full-frame 60mm f/1.8 macro lens with a similar overall concept, so this APS-C version looks more like a scaled, system-flexible alternative than a completely new design. Pricing has not been announced yet, but since the full-frame version sells for around $170, it would not be surprising to see the APS-C model land in a similar range once it is officially revealed.
