Adobe’s New Lightroom Updates

Adobe has released a new round of updates across the Lightroom family, including Lightroom Classic, Lightroom on desktop, Lightroom for iPad, and Lightroom Mobile. The August update introduces a mix of new editing features, workflow improvements, and expanded camera and lens support, with some of the biggest additions focused on masking and AI-powered editing. Lightroom Classic 15.5 now supports cameras such as the GoPro Mission 1 and Mission 1 Pro, along with new lens profiles including the Laowa 65mm f/2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO, Laowa 90mm f/2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO, and Sigma 85mm f/1.2 DG.

One of the most useful additions in Lightroom Classic is the ability to refine masks using new Feather and Edge sliders. They let you soften mask edges or expand and contract the selected area more precisely, making it easier to work around fine details like hair, trees, and other complex subjects. Adobe also added the option to adjust the opacity of cropped-out areas while using the Crop tool, along with the ability to save edited photos as new DNG files while keeping the original file untouched.

Meanwhile, Lightroom 9.5 for desktop, along with Lightroom for iPhone, gains one of Photoshop’s most popular AI features, Generative Expand. The tool uses Adobe’s AI to fill in newly created areas when extending the edges of a photo, making it easier to recompose or create wider crops without leaving Lightroom. Alongside that, Lightroom 9.5 also receives the same new mask refinement controls found in Lightroom Classic. All of Adobe’s latest August Lightroom updates are available to download now.
