Sigma has officially introduced the 35mm f/1.2 DG II Art lens, a big update to its original 2019 35mm f/1.2 DG DN Art. The lens keeps the ultra-fast maximum aperture but comes in a smaller, lighter, and more refined package. It is about 20% shorter and 30% lighter than the first version, now measuring 111.4mm in length, weighing 755 grams, and using a more manageable 72mm filter thread. The build is still premium, with aluminium and Thermally Stable Composite materials, plus weather sealing, a petal-type hood, a customisable AFL button, and a de-clickable aperture ring.

Inside, lens features 17 elements in 13 groups, including one SLD element and four aspherical pieces, with an 11-bladed circular diaphragm for smooth bokeh. Sigma says it paid special attention to controlling aberrations and avoiding issues like colour fringing and “double line” bokeh, especially when shooting wide open at f/1.2. Focus breathing has also been cut down, which should make it a strong option for video work as well as stills.

Autofocus has seen improvements too. The new design uses dual HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) motors, each driving a separate focus group, for faster, quieter, and more accurate focusing. The minimum focus distance is 28cm, giving a 1:5.3 magnification ratio. The Sigma 35mm f/1.2 DG II Art will be available for Sony E and L-Mount starting September 25, priced at $1,549.
