New Leica Firmware Updates

Leica has rolled out a new batch of firmware updates for several of its cameras, covering the SL2, SL2-S, Q3, Q3 43, Q3 Monochrom, and D-Lux 8. The biggest changes comes with Firmware 6.3.0 for the SL2 and SL2-S, which adds support for the recently introduced Noctilux-M 35mm f/1.2 ASPH. Leica has also fixed a battery drain issue that could occur when Bluetooth and Remote Wakeup were enabled while the camera was switched off. Other fixes address excessive vignette correction with the Noctilux-M 50mm f/1.2, unavailable manual focusing with certain L-Mount lenses in video mode, and incorrect T-stop information when using some cine lenses.

There are a few more fixes tucked into the SL update as well. Leica has addressed artifacts that could appear along the bottom edge of DNG files after using Adobe Camera Raw’s AI-powered noise reduction. On the SL2-S, focus peaking should now be easier to see when using the magnified view for manual focusing during video recording. Meanwhile, the Q3, Q3 43, and Q3 Monochrom move to Firmware 4.1.1. This is mostly a maintenance release, fixing an issue where the cameras could unexpectedly return to the default user profile. They will also now automatically switch off once wireless charging is detected, while Leica has fixed remote connections occasionally failing after waking the camera when certain Leica Looks or autofocus settings were active.

The D-Lux 8 gets Firmware 1.9.0, although Leica is not saying much about what has actually changed. The release notes simply mention bug fixes without going into detail. All updates can be installed through the Leica FOTOS app, which is the method Leica recommends, or manually using a newly formatted memory card.
