Fujifilm Delays X-T6 September Launch

The Fujifilm X-T6 apparently won’t be arriving in early September after all. The camera was expected to make its debut during an X Summit around September 3, 2026, but multiple sources now say Fujifilm has cancelled the event and pushed back the announcement. The bigger question is when it will actually happen, as there does not seem to be a replacement date yet. Only a few weeks ago, the first week of September was looking pretty solid for the X-T6 launch, so this appears to be a fairly recent change of plans rather than the earlier rumours simply being wrong.

The delay may come down to software. According to insider reports, Fujifilm needs a little more time to finish several features, potentially including the new AI-powered autofocus system, a new Film Simulation, and other software improvements expected to arrive with the X-T6. There is also some speculation around hardware availability, particularly since the X-T5 has already been listed as discontinued in Fujifilm’s Japanese store. For now, though, there is nothing suggesting the X-T6 itself is in serious trouble. A launch later in the year, perhaps around October, is still possible. And considering how much criticism Fujifilm has faced over autofocus in recent generations, taking a few extra weeks to properly sort out the new system probably is not the worst idea.

There is also some new information about one of the lenses expected alongside Fujifilm’s next generation of cameras. Sources now point to the previously rumoured XF 400mm arriving as the Fujinon XF 400mm f/4.5 R LM OIS WR. That puts it between the previously discussed possibilities of a relatively compact 400mm f/4 and a much larger 400mm f/2.8.
