Cosina Voigtländer has fully unveiled its new Nokton Classic 35mm f/1.4 for Canon RF and Nikon Z mount cameras, a few months after first showing the lens at CP+ 2026. The manual-focus full-frame prime is based on the company’s existing Sony E-mount version, which is now nearly a decade old, and while the optical design remains almost unchanged, the two new versions do differ in appearance. The Nikon Z version keeps the classic scalloped focus ring, while the Canon RF version has a more modern diamond-knurled design.
The lens uses an 8-element, 6-group optical design that incorporates modern glass types, including ultra-high refractive index elements, while retaining a symmetrical optical layout. According to Voigtländer, the lens is intended to deliver softer, more characterful rendering at f/1.4, while becoming noticeably sharper as it is stopped down. A 10-blade aperture diaphragm is designed to produce smooth out-of-focus areas and rounded highlights. The lens also features a full-metal helicoid focusing mechanism, with a focus ring designed for precise manual adjustments. Minimum focusing distance is 0.27 meters, providing a maximum reproduction ratio of 1:5.5.
Physically, both versions remain relatively compact. The Canon RF version weighs 260g, while the Nikon Z version comes in at 250g, with both measuring roughly 38 to 42mm in length depending on the mount. The Voigtländer Nokton Classic 35mm f/1.4 is expected to arrive next month for Canon RF and Nikon Z mounts, priced at $620.
