Sony has officially announced a new “Be Alpha” event in Barcelona for October 16, 2025, and as history shows that means big news. The last time Sony hosted an event like this, it unveiled the A7 IV, so naturally, rumours are swirling that a new camera might be on the way. According to Sonyalpharumors, there is a good chance we could either see the long-awaited A7 V finally make its debut or at least get an update on its progress. Some even think Sony could surprise everyone with a completely new model built around its latest sensor tech.

Speaking of sensors, Sony’s next big step might be the introduction of a three-layer sensor, a development that adds an extra layer between the pixel and logic levels. In plain terms, that means faster processing, better noise control, and improved dynamic range. The company has been investing heavily in sensor innovation, putting around 930 billion yen (over €5 billion) into research and development by 2026.

Lenses are also part of this new wave. The Sony 50-150mm f/2 GM, which came out recently, is being called one of the most impressive zooms Sony has ever made. The company has hinted that this is just the start, suggesting more ambitious, high-performance lenses could be right around the corner, perhaps even unveiled alongside whatever Sony decides to show in Barcelona.
