Tamron has been making lenses since 1950, but the shift to mirrorless cameras has completely reshaped its approach. Since 2018, the company has focused on designing smaller, lighter lenses that take advantage of modern in-camera corrections.
On the prime vs. zoom debate, Tamron says it’s simply responding to demand—people want zooms, so that’s what they’re making. But if enough photographers ask for new primes, they’ll consider it.
And what about high-end, pro lenses to compete with Canon L, Sony GM, or Sigma Art? Tamron says they’re open to it, but only if people want them. The company actively listens through events, surveys, and online reviews, so if you have a request, now’s the time to speak up.
