PolarPro released the Center Split Filter, a new effects filter designed to create a split-field look directly in-camera. The filter keeps the centre of the image sharp while softening and blooming highlights above and below, or to the sides, depending on orientation. Built with PolarPro’s Cinema Series glass and a durable metal housing, it features the same anti-reflective coatings used in the company’s ND and polarising filters. The goal is to offer photographers and filmmakers a practical way to achieve an optical effect that is difficult to replicate during post-production.
PolarPro says the Center Split Filter is best suited for stylised sequences, dreamlike imagery, and creative transitions. The effect varies depending on focal length, it is stronger and more pronounced at wider focal lengths like 35mm, and more subtle at longer ones such as 85mm. The company describes it as a niche, specialty filter meant to complement existing setups rather than replace everyday ND or diffusion filters.
The Center Split Filter is available in standard threaded sizes (49mm, 67mm, 77mm, and 82mm) with prices ranging from $79.99 to $99.99. A version compatible with PolarPro’s magnetic Helix MagLock system is priced at $149.99. The threaded versions are shipping now, and the MagLock model is scheduled to begin shipping next week.
