Photoshop turned 35! Love it or hate it, you can’t deny its impact. It’s so iconic that “Photoshopped” became a verb. Since launching in 1990, it’s gone from a pricey, Mac-only program to an AI-powered creative beast that photographers, designers, and artists rely on every day.
Some of the biggest game-changers? Layers arrived in 1994, making editing way more flexible. Then in 1995, non-destructive editing meant you could tweak brightness, contrast, and colors without messing up the original image. In 2003, Adobe added Camera Raw, making it easier to work with RAW files. One of the most controversial moves? Switching to subscriptions in 2013—some people hated it, but it meant constant updates.
Adobe says they’re just getting started—so who knows what’s next? Either way, happy 35th, Photoshop!
