When OM System released the OM-3 earlier this year, it made a big deal about giving photographers more control over colour with custom picture profiles. Now, about eight months later, the company is following up with something that builds on that idea, the OM-3 Recipes hub, a new site where OM-3 users can download and share their own colour and black-and-white looks.
Right now, there are six featured recipes from photographers Jerred Z, Kyler Steele, Ali O’Keefe, Kitty Marie, Paul Clark, and Jonathan Paragas. Each one with a different look and vibe. Kyler Steele’s “Nostalgic Summer,” for example, amps up greens and golden yellows while stripping away blues for a warm, vintage feel. Kitty Marie’s “Red Soda Pop” pushes reds forward and softens everything else. OM-3 owners can also submit their own creations on the site by uploading a JPEG straight from the camera, along with a short description of their look.
The only catch is that installing these recipes isn’t as easy as it probably should/could be. Instead of doing it through the mobile app, you will need to plug your OM-3 into a computer and use the OM Workspace desktop software. Once connected, you can drag and drop recipe JPEGs into the program and save them to one of the OM-3’s custom “C” mode slots on the top dial. It is a bit clunky, but it works.
