Viltrox is gearing up to release what looks like a pretty bold new lens: the 35mm f/1.2 LAB, built for Sony E and Nikon Z mounts. It’s part of their new high-end LAB lineup.
This 35mm prime is designed with resolution in mind. It’s got a complex optical setup (15 elements in 10 groups) including five ED elements, three high refractive ones, and two aspherical lenses. That’s a lot of glass, all aimed at keeping images sharp across the entire frame—even at f/1.2. Autofocus is handled by a new Hyper VCM motor, which Viltrox claims is 1.5x faster and more accurate than the older STM motors. Add in the wide f/1.2 aperture, 11-blade diaphragm for creamy bokeh, and close-focusing capabilities (down to 34cm).
Physically, it’s a tank—around 920g and with a 77mm filter thread. But it’s packed with controls: three physical switches, two customisable Fn buttons, two control rings, and a LCD display, which you can personalise through a Bluetooth-connected app. The display can show shooting info or even custom startup text. No official price yet, the Lens is coming on April 16th.
